A stunning VEB Porzellanmanufaktur of Plaue, Thuringia, Germany cabaret set dating to c1890. The crossed line mark on this items was deemed to be too similar to the Meissen croosed swords mark and so was discontinued after 1890. The set comprises four cups and saucers, a covered sugar basin, coffee pot and covered cream jug. Each item is elaborately decorated with courting couple and musician scenes in the romantic manner, interspersed with floral panels and with detail gilding all over. Although some of the pieces are worn - in particular to the gilding - remarkably, there is no damage on any of the items. The cover of the milk or cream jug has a manufacturing imperfection. As you would expect, this is a heavy set at 2.6Kgs.
